A new feature on my blog! The first and third Mondays of each month will showcase a DIY project.
Pretty anemone flowers to brighten your windowsill (and they won't wilt!).
Supplies needed: solid cardstock in assorted colors, cupcake papers, florist tape, wire, ink.
Let's start! Pinch the cupcake paper in the center so it ruffles...
Bend the tip on a length of wire so it looks like a squished 'U'...
Insert the straight end of the wire into the center of the pinched cupcake paper, poking it through until the bent end disappears down into the ruffle...
Wrap the bottom of the ruffled cupcake with florist tape to hold the pinched shape....
Choose a color cardstock and cut out two shapes (click on link for template)....
Download Anemone flower instructions
Poke a hole through the center of each shape and cut a little 1/4" slit at each of the three indents...
Fold the three petals towards each other and slightly crumple the petals...
Use a contrasting ink and sponge it along the edges of the petals. Also lightly rub the ink across the crumpled surface. Do the back side as well...
Lay the two shapes out so the petals are staggered.....
Insert the straight end of the wire all the way into the center hole of the petal shapes until the ruffled cupcake paper sits snug inside the petals (In the image below I would still push the cupcake ruffle down that last inch or so until no green florist tape is showing)....
Wrap florist tape around the bottom of the flower to hold it in place on the stem. (You can add a few mini glue dots inside the petals to help secure it and keep the petals from spinning)...
That's it! Make a whole bouquet! I have these sitting on my kitchen windowsill. When I brought the kids home from the bus stop this afternoon I noticed a ladybug crawling around on the yellow anemone! Ben wanted to know if the flowers were real. What a compliment. :-)
You can make all sorts of pretty colored flowers. I did a white anemone and used green ink on the petals and a light green cupcake paper....
This technique would be gorgeous with pretty double-sided patterned paper as well! What a bouquet that would be! Have fun making your anemones!!!
I love these! A friend gave me a little bouquet of flowers last week and they're dying fast. I was trying to figure out how I can keep the vase looking lovely and I think this is it! Thank you for sharing!

Fantastic idea! You make it really look pretty easy and simple to make with your step by step and very detailed tutorial. I've always been fascinated with artificial flower making and this tutorial adds to my list, thanks to you.

I like how you make the petals, the way you add the ink to it, nice technique, I love it. Is a felt paper a nice material to use as well?
