The long-awaited day of December first has arrived and my children are happy.
December first means Ben can start his countdown-to-Christmas activity from school. He gets to glue one cotton ball per day to Santa's face, giving him a full beard by Christmas Eve. Santa is displayed at Ben's eye level on the front of the refrigerator.
December first means Sarah and Ben get to start opening the little doors on their Advent calenders from Tante Kimmy. I told Kim yesterday that the kids were anxious to start opening them and they wanted to know if they could do it first thing in the morning each day. I told them no, no chocolate in the morning. She started laughing and said, "It's a good thing they didn't ask me about it first."
So I re-thought my decision and, what the heck.... you're only a kid once. I'll let them open the doors first thing in the morning.
This morning my children brought their calenders into my room as I was getting ready and I helped them to open the #1 door. Yum - a chocolate Santa face!
Ten minutes later we move into the kitchen to start breakfast proceedings and I ask Ben what he wants to eat. Thrusting his calender towards me and giving me that duh, mom look, he says, "This was breakfast, don'tcha know!" :)
