office space Christmas tree tutorial

A little idea to share with you... this would be cute in your work space or creative space. A tiny paper Christmas tree made from a tiny lined notebook....

The notebook I started with measures 3 1/2" wide by 4 1/4" high. I removed the cover so I could fold the pages down to get the tree shape. Start at the front page and fold the top right corner of each page down to meet the spine...

You will most likely have an area on the bottom where the fold doesn't cover because of the rectangle shape of most notebooks. That's OKAY! Just keep folding and folding and folding......

Eventually you will reach the last page. Whew!

 
Tah dah! A very simple and easy to make paper tree! I cut a backing for my tree using Making Memories patterned paper... just to give it some stability while standing....

Now your tree is ready for decorating! I had cute light bulbs from a necklace that I cut apart and added to the tree with mini glue dots. I also added pretty opalescent beads by sliding a bead on a pearl tipped pin and inserting the pin into the edge of a fold....

A pearl tipped pin loaded with beads is my tree topper...

And some green sequin trim adds a festive touch...

one VERY happy little boy

Months and months and months of waiting have finally paid off.

I can't remember if it was last Christmas or Ben's birthday, which is March 3, that Ben got a frog habitat for a gift. It included a coupon code to order a leopard frog tadpole. He was disappointed to learn that the company didn't ship the tadpoles until it was the proper time, which in this case, is November. So Ben waited all this time and when November rolled around he started to get anxious. Finally, yesterday I got email notification that the tadpole had shipped. Ben has been floating on a cloud.

Today, in the mail, was a small Manila shipping envelope stamped: live, keep from heat and cold. Inside the envelope was a tiny test tube and inside that was one very teeny tiny tadpole that now has the official name of Tad....

Can you tell Ben is happy?

He loves this little guy.  We tied a string around the test tube and let Tad float in his new home for awhile, getting accustomed to the water temperature.

 
He's in good company, we have three other amphibians in the family as well.... Toga the African dwarf frog, and Spotty and Hot Tamale, the fire belly toads. :-)

miscellaneous kitschy and unique

1 miscellaneous Ben had book fair at school today and he came home with a few books and some miscellaneous items, like this super long bendy pencil that he used to do his homework.

2 kitschy My brother Doug stopped by last night to drop something off and he asked if I wanted the little bee dishes that he had. Sure! I thought they were cute! The wings lift off to reveal a bowl and the tiny spoon is the stinger. Kitschy! They sit on my kitchen window and make me smile. :-)

3 unique I enjoyed watching this buck make a buck rub on a scrub tree in my back yard early this morning. I put the zoom lens on my camera and shot through the sliding glass door... he was about 90 yards away. When he turned to leave I got this picture and I noticed he only has one antler. He must have broken off the other one, making him a unique young buck.

Ben learned how to make a paper bag gingerbread house at school and he wanted to make one at home. So, while he worked hard on that (and gave it a lot of thought!)......

.... I worked on cutting out a flock of little birdies for my birds gone green....

Sarah was off reading a Goosebumps book somewhere (Sarah? Reading???? No surprise there!).

I love the background in the picture with Ben. Look at my refrigerator/art display and all the fun pictures Sarah and Ben have made. That's Ben's self portrait to his right. And his Batman and Robin above him. Sarah has Harry Potter characters at the bottom of the refrigerator and you can just catch a glimpse of the corner of her Candy Corn Monster from Halloween week. The kitchen is the creative hub of our house, for sure! :-)

make and take for the crop

P.S. it's in the details will be sponsoring a make and take at the Crop for a Cure on Saturday. I've finalized the project and now I have to get all the bits and pieces ready for the make and takers.

This is what we will be making... an ornament from my reuse recycle create line that utilizes some QuicKutz products....

I love the cute little Anime Birds die! He'll be gracing an ornament created with recycled book pages and magazine pages. And the double sided chipboard is a dream to work with! I will only have enough for 25 croppers, so have those running shoes on to get to my table when it's time! See you Saturday! :-)
